Mr. Tony Bernard Barber, beloved brother, father, son and uncle peacefully transitioned from this earthly world on Friday, October 14, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving and supportive family. A service honoring his life will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Love and Faith Christian Fellowship 4344 Blackberry Rd. Greensboro, NC. Tony was born on November 15, 1966, to James and Bessie Barber in Greensboro NC. Tony received his formal education in Guilford County school system. After high school Tony did many things. He worked at N.C.A&T State University for many years. Later in his life Tony worked as a self-employed landscaper. He had a real passion and pride for his work which he enjoyed very much until his body was unable to perform that type of strenuous activity. Tony had an ability to tinker around and could manage to fix almost anything. We loved referring to him as our family “handyman”.
In his leisure time he enjoyed hanging out with friends and family. He was a free thinker, and a very kindhearted man. Tony was a true treasure to all who came to know him and love him. As his health began to decline, Tony did not lose his sharp, brilliant mind. He continued playing chess, watching, and answering all the Jeopardy questions. His all-time favorite pastime was enjoying good food, he had a large appetite and loved to eat, especially his sister’s home cooked meals. At family gatherings he loved eating his favorite foods, creating a lot of laughter, picture-taking, and pure enjoyment. Tony was always thankful for having such a loving and supportive family. He could tell childhood stories and remember details that no one else could. Tony was full of love and joy. He was also very proud of his two daughters, Shannon and Tanisha.
A Dear One has gone from us, There is a vacant chair. But God who has bereaved us, Will place his Angel there. To help us bear our sorrow, our anguish, grief, and pain, For on that great tomorrow, We will meet again. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bessie Barber, his sister, Carolyn Barber, and the love of his life and mother of his children, Carolyn Woodson.
He leaves to cherish his life two daughters, Shannon and Tanisha Woodson, his devoted sisters, Gloria Cobb (Tony), Angela Gooding (Milton), Leslie Jenkins (Dennis), one brother Willie Barber, his loving nephew, Timothy Barber (Debbie). One niece, Melissa Jenkins, four nephews Brandon Williamson, Dennis Jenkins Jr., Rachon Chambers and Joshua Gooding and a host of cousins, and friends and other extended family.
