Thomas Johnson Oliver, 82, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Adams Farm Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Thomas was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on May 16, 1940 to the late Rudy and Macy Oliver. He was the last surviving sibling of eight. He graduated from James B. Dudley High School where he met Normesa, the love of his life. He played baseball in high school and coached several youth basketball and football teams at Warnersville Recreation Center. He retired from Wesley Long Hospital and worked part-time after retirement at Warnersville Recreation Center due to his love for youth and sports.
Thomas was a God-fearing man who welcomed everyone he met with kindness. He was a dedicated member at St. James Baptist Church, where he sang in the Will Green Gospel Choir and the Male Chorus. He loved to talk sports and watch any sporting event that was on TV. He was a golfer and bowler in his earlier days but truly enjoyed sitting on his porch talking with neighbors. He will be remembered for his love of his family, sports, and his bright and infectious smile as well as his wit. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his wife Normesa A. Oliver. He is survived by daughter Tonya Oliver Foster (Geoff) of Greensboro, his son Michael Anthony Oliver (Natalie) of Moore, SC; grandsons Michael, Jeremiah, Alan, and VJ; granddaughters Daphne, Ashley, Ann Marie, Marissa, and Mariah; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
The loved ones of Thomas Oliver will cherish the legacy he’s left behind-God’s good and faithful servant. He’s now resting in the arms of his Savior and reunited in eternity with his wife.
