So saddened to hear of Vern's passing. Vern and his team was most gracious to our unit after Hurricane Andrew demolished Homestead AFB. We were able to continue flying operations through the efforts of Vern and the 89th FS. RIP VERN. My God bless his family at this time.

My Condolences to The entire Massey Family, and friends who are in mourning for Vernon "Vern" Massey. My career path and Verns first came in 1981 at Homestead AFB where he was a Life Supporter and I was a Parachute rigger I remember him bringing in the F-4 ejection seat "tooth" as it was termed and I found him to be a friendly and lively guy. I next encountered Vern at WPAFB in 1987 and got to have a better working relationship with him as I was still a rigger back then and short story long I was to be working for him from 1995-2011 I could write stories for days but what I want to say about SMSgt Massey is that he was a man of strong beliefs a Child of God . He could make you laugh one minute and make you mad the next! I will always have the tremendous memories that I have of our deployments and travels we shared along our Air Force journey. I will especially miss his phone calls, he was a decent, caring guy and I will miss our friendship. Al Berens

RIP my brother. Thank you for your service to God and country. Prayers to family, well done good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy lord. A

Airman Massey worked for me in the 19th TAST in 1978...He reported to me in civilian clothes and informed him that he should have reported to me in military uniform... Therefore, he went back and changed and reported to me again the next day in the correct uniform...lol... He was a sharp young man who worked real hard at his craft, my condolences to his family...

So sad to hear about Vern. As a Reserve Fighter Pilot in the 89th TFS out of Dayton, Ohio Vern was our Life Support SMSGT. I flew there for 10 years in the F-4 and F-16. We deployed to Homestead, Alpena, Nellis and multiple other exciting places...and Vern was always upbeat, happy, and joking around even while taking such great care of us all. We all trusted his shop with our lives, knowing that our flight equipment and gear were up to date and in excellent working order. I'd love to tell you all a couple anecdotal stories Vern and I shared, BUT decorum prevents me from expounding. Let it just be known that we experienced some very good laughs together. Miss you already. Lt Col BJ Johnson, Ops Officer 89th TFS Rhinos 1982-92.

My deepest sympathy for the Massey family. Vern and I were stationed together in the 18th TRS at Shaw back in the early 70s as Airman. We were good friends. Rest in Peace my brother. SMSgt Bill Neason USAF Retired

To the Massey family, I'd like to offer my condolences to you all as well.

King Vern was more than just a superintendent to me. He was guidance, inspiration and my mentor. He'd taught me many lessons in which some stuck and the others, well, had gone in one ear and out of the other; but he never gave up on me and I appreciate him for that.

Vern, thank you for preparing me for a lifetime of achievements.

You would never be forgotten.

Rest In Peace King! KD

Our deepest sympathy and condolences to the Massey from the Newman Family Vernon was my high school classmate. Noelle Newman Boozer

Our deepest condolences to the Massey Family. Tracy and Jerry Phelps

My deepest sympathies to you, Vern's family. What a fabulous man to work with. I essentially was in his hands as an F4 pilot who relied on his life support expertise. But more than his professional expertise, he was so much fun to laugh and 'play' with. He loved the North Carolina Tarheels and Dean Smith. I, being from Indiana, love Bobby Knight and the Hoosiers. Not an interaction went by, but which we would jab each other with great teasing. At that time, I think North Carolina had an overall upper hand. But I would never admit that:-). On deployments we always had a ping pong table set up somewhere. Vern was a great player. We competed vigorously. He hated to get beat!! Of course, I did too. We had fabulous combradiery. Your memory lives on, Vern! Keep that table warm when we meet again. Ned Wilson

I served with Vern at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for three years (1982-1985). He was a dedicated Airman who never stopped trying to improve his squadron and make the world a safer place for his aircrew. Prayers to the Massey family. Rest easy, Vern, you will be missed...
