Mr. Roger Ulysses Holt, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024 at his residence.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 12pm Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home 909 East Market Street Greensboro, North Carolina.
Roger Ulysses Holt, born on March 31, 1957, in Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away on December 16, 2024, in Pleasant Garden, North Carolina. The son of Everett Ulysses Holt and Betty Sue Hall Holt, Roger was a beloved father, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend whose life was filled with passion, humor and a deep love for his family and community.
Roger was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, CaShawnta’ Shnell Holt; his parents, Betty Hall Holt and Everett Holt; his sister, Phyliss Amaker; his brother, Larry Holt; his niece, Paris Amaker; and his loyal dogs, Marshall and Cookie.
Roger was a man of many talents and interests. He was an athlete, a bond shared with his youngest daughter, Chasity. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, bowling, and basketball. He was also a music lover; something he passed down to both of his daughters. His favorite song was “Always and Forever” by Heatwave, which he would sing to them often. Roger loved to dance, never shying away from a dancing partner.
He enjoyed cooking and was particularly proud of his fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, and squash along with his Thanksgiving turkey. He was quietly funny, with a witty sense of humor that always brought laughter to his family and friends. Roger’s competitive spirit showed in his love of pool, where he was a local champion and argumentatively retired too soon.
A lifelong fan of Star Wars, Marvel, and the unknowns of the world, Roger had a knack for immersing himself in the stories of his favorite universes. His loyalties to sports teams were just as strong, and while he was a lifelong UNC fan, his heart was divided as he grew to love NC State as well.
Roger had a deep love for cars and spent decades in auto-body detailing and mechanic work, a profession he dedicated himself to with precision and pride. He was the owner of a body shop in Kings Mountain, North Carolina and was able to share this passion with his twin brother, Randy, at Personal Touch Auto Body, changing the lives of many customers who in turn became friends. His green thumb, inherited from his mother, was evident in the beautiful yard he owned and nurtured which was voted the best yard in the neighborhood along with his proud ownership of a nursery and landscaping business. His love of gardening was just another testament to his care and attention to the world around him.
Just like his father, Roger never met a stranger. His kind, welcoming nature and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life made him a beloved figure in his community. His laugh and smile will travel through time, living through those he loved.
Roger’s presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Those left to cherish his memory are his “baby girl”, Chasity Holt; fraternal brother, Randy Holt; sisters, Sheila Pearson, Sharon Terry, Jaqueline Rhodie, Gail Holt, and Pamela Blackstock; a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, and a wide circle of family and friends.
