Obituary For Patricia Ann Farr Stallings

Patricia Ann Farr Stallings departed this life at the age of 81 on January 13, 2024. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Greensboro, NC.

Services in memory of Mrs. Stallings will be as follows:

Viewing: Monday, January 22, 2024 11:30am at Mt. Zion Baptist Church; 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27406.

Homegoing Service: 12pm Monday, January 22, 2024 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church; 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27406.

Interment: 2pm Monday, January 29, 2024 at Salisbury National Cemetery; 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Mrs. Stallings was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Sims Farr, and father, Joe Curtis Farr, Sr., sister, Gloria Farr Gant, and brothers, Earnest Farr and James Farr. She is survived by her husband, Vernell Stallings, children, Tonya Stallings, Trudy Stallings Payton (Darryl), and Vernon Stallings (Jean), grandchildren, Darryl Rai Payton, Everett Nicholas Payton, Jecara White, and Endre White, brother, Joe Curtis Farr, Jr. and a host of loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to convey its deepest appreciation to Ms. Brigette Blackmon, who provided loving care for Mrs. Stallings in her final years. With Ms. Brigette’s support, Mrs. Stallings spent her declining years in the comfort and familiarity of her own home and surrounded by family and friends.

Patricia Ann Farr was born to Joe Curtis and Juanita Farr on October 14, 1942 in Union, SC. She lived most of her adult life in Greensboro where she graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in Clothing. She worked for 32 years as a Home Economist for Cone Mills Corp and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro.

Patricia was a devoted wife to Vernell and mother to Tonya, Trudy, and Todd. She came to Greensboro in 1960 to attend NC A&T and, there, she met her beloved Vernell. The couple married in 1966, and in 1967, they returned to Greensboro to work on their post-graduate degrees and to begin building a life and a home together.

An accomplished seamstress, Mrs. Stallings often dressed her young daughters in matching handmade ensembles, and her husband was known to boast about his custom suits tailor-made by his wife. Mrs. Stallings developed a following for her skills as a seamstress, and a core group of dedicated clients were often seen at the Stallings home throughout the 1970’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

In her spare time, Mrs. Stallings enjoyed baking as well as cross-stitch and crochet – a talent she passed on to her eldest daughter, Tonya. Her grandchildren, Darryl Rai and Zen have no less than nine hand-made baby blankets between them, and complete custom bedding and crib sets they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

An avid sports fan, Mrs. Stallings traveled countless miles and spent untold hours supporting her children as they competed in basketball, bowling, football, track and field, and wrestling. Always an Aggie, for more than 50 years she followed the team wherever they went to support them in basketball, bowling, and football. She and her husband gave generously to the University.

Mrs. Stallings had a long and happy retirement. She spent her summers nurturing and caring for her grandchildren. She spent her winters in her home in Florida. Over her 20+ years in retirement she visited Alaska, Cancun, Cuba, England, France, Hawaii, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, South Africa, and Spain, to mention a few.

In her later years, she could often be found enjoying her front porch listening to the wind blow through the trees or watching her beloved Vernell mow his lawn. She lived a good life.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Center for Outreach in Alzheimer’s Aging and Community Health (COAACH) at North Carolina A&T State University in memory of Patricia Stallings.
