Mrs. Ora Morehead passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 1 pm Shiloh Baptist Church 1210 South Elm Eugene Street. Greensboro, North Carolina. 12:30 pm Visitation. Burial will be held Sunday, April 30,2023 at 1 pm at Maplewood Cemetery 235 Bingham Street Greensboro, North Carolina.

Mrs. Ora Mae “Curly” Morehead died Saturday morning April 22, 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina after a brief illness. She was 87 years old. She was born on November 17, 1935 to Hovan Marsh and Sadie Walker in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Ora was a life-long member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She faithfully served on the Nurses Committee, Missionary Board and as a Deaconess. She loved her church and church family.

As a young girl, she attended J.C. Price Elementary School and James B. Dudley High School. In high school she was a member of the cheerleading squad and dance troupe. There she met and married Aaron John “Peter” Morehead, Sr.

Ora loved and cared for her family and members of the community. She raised her children Aaron Jr. (“Pee Wee”), Pamela (“Pam”), Reba and her grandchildren to love GOD and family.

Ora expressed her love for the community by organizing with her mother, The Progressive Community Club, a neighborhood watch program for the families living on Julian and Logan Streets in southeast Greensboro. They partnered with local law enforcement for the National Night Out, held community barbeques, and helped whenever a neighbor needed it. That need may have been a good meal, a listening ear, or support in a crisis.

As a career she expressed that caring as a 25-year employee of the Guilford County Health Department. She was a community health nurse aide for many young mothers in Greensboro. She would visit their homes and teach them how to care for their babies. She would ensure they had the necessary parenting skills and knew of services available to them to raise their children. She retired in 2000.

Later in life, Ora moved from the family home on Julian Street to the Carillon, a senior community in Greensboro. There she made great friends, joined the “Red Hatters”, and attended vesper each Sunday.

She is survived and cherished by her son, Aaron John Morehead, Jr.; her daughter, Reba Wright; her grandson, Darrian Morehead; her granddaughter Ariana Wright; two great-grandsons, Lawson and Gentry Morehead, four great-granddaughters, Laila Pruitt, Audriana, Azmeena, and Mila Morehead, and two sisters-in-law, Vivian M. Evans and Barbara M. Washington, nephews; nieces; great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of loved relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Shirley B. Bell, her daughter, Pam, and her grandsons John Wimbish and Brett Morehead (Christina).
