Minister Mollie Louise Newkirk Moore was born September 13, 1928, in Pender County, Wallace, NC to Swift and Alberta Newkirk. She was the youngest of five children; Hayes Newkirk, Percy Newkirk, Harriet N. Pickett, Major Newkirk all proceeded her in death. Also preceded her was her son James Wesley Moore and granddaughter Krisie Maynard.
She was educated in the Pender County school system. She worked for Pender County schools as a bus driver and substitute teacher. After moving to Greensboro, NC in the early seventies she worked at Cone Mills and Guilford Mills and later owned her own business, Dynamo Cleaning Services. From birth until moving to Greensboro, NC she was a faithful member of Newkirk Chapel church, Wallace, NC. Molly authored articles for the Washington Afro American newspaper about the event that was going on in the Newkirk Chapel community.
While in Greensboro she attended Reid Memorial CME church for over 35 years. She served faithfully throughout the years on the missionary board, trustee board, ministers board and was a women’s Sunday school teacher. She attended ministers’ school there. She wrote the welcome song in which they still sing to this day.
While in Wallace, she was a caregiver for her mother until her passing. She also cared for her aunt and uncle, Harriet, and James Williams until their passing. She was a valuable citizen in the community in the 50s and 60s. Molly loved gardening. If you ever stopped by her house, you would find her in her garden. She loved flowers and her favorite flower was roses. Her favorite meal was fish and sweet potatoes. She loved taking care of stray animals. You would often find a lot of cats around her house.
Molly is survived by daughter, Barbara N. Davis (Tony) Greensboro, NC; Curnie D. Moore, Greensboro, NC; Nelson Ray More (Evelyn), Gilbert, AZ; thirteen grandchildren, Angela Blassingame, Alden Blassingame, Erica Blassingame Marshall (Brandon), Nicole Blassingame, Charles “Peco” Rucker, James Wesley Moore, Jr., Anthony Moore, Monica Maynard, Curtis Moore, Amaris Moore, Menyon Franklin Landurm, Inez Anthony; special friends, Cynthia Clayton and Lisa Maynard, Coco her grand dog and a host of great grands, great great grands, cousins, nieces, family and friends.
Funeral will be held Monday, August 1, 2022 at 12pm Reid Memorial C.M.E. Church 1010 Bennett Street, Greensboro, North Carolina. 11:30am Visitation. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
