Obituary For Marion Mills

Marion Mills of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2023. Her life was characterized by love, laughter, family, an abiding faith in God, and her full devotion to her children, her husband, her family and friends, and her dog. No one ever left Marion’s house hungry, and anyone who ate her cooking was truly blessed.

Marion grew up surrounded by family. Her closest family knew her as “Spud,” short for “Sputnik,” because of her childhood energy and habit of running around the house as fast as she could. That energy lasted throughout her life, and almost nobody could keep up with Marion’s ability to get things done. She raised two beautiful children, owned her own successful business, unconditionally loved, and took care of her husband, and always found time for her friends and family. She also helped to raise and care for others' children who affectionately called her Mama Marion, May May, or Grandma Marion. She worked hard, loved hard, laughed hard, and filled her life with hope, determination, and plenty of kind words she was happy to share. Marion was admired by many and loved by all who knew her.

She faced her terminal illness diagnosis the same way she lived, with an unwavering faith in God’s good, pleasing and perfect will. She trusted that God would see her through it, and that He would comfort and strengthen her family as she was carried home. Marion is survived by her husband, two children, granddaughter, seven sisters, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and those she embraced as family.

Marion’s Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, from 1-3pm at the Proximity Hotel, Weaver Room, 704 Green Valley Road, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served from 1-1:30pm.
