Ms. Marilyn Patrice Raleigh (67) finished her assignment here on earth January 21, 2021. She was born on September 11, 1953 to the late Joseph E and Mattie J. Raleigh. She attended Guilford County Schools, graduating from Western Guildford High School in 1971. Continuing her education, she attended GTCC where she received a degree in Cosmetology, in which she worked many years. In later years she worked for Bank of America, United Guaranty and Lincoln Financial. Joining Collins Grove United Methodist Church at an early age, she was a member of the Young Adult Choir and Jr. Usher Board. She was also a member of the J. W. Raleigh Singers. In later years Marilyn joined St. James Baptist Church. Marilyn was a devoted and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She especially loved her role as Oma, which her grandchildren called her. She loved caring for her grands, baking cakes and watching CNN daily. She was always there to help others in need and will truly be missed. Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, Dennis R. Horton, Jr. and two sisters, Lottie Pearl and Cornelia Anna Raleigh. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Akosua Nyako of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Taylor Horton, Sanya Nyako Reed, Mattox Nyako and Skyler Nyako Bennett; two brothers, Jerry W. Raleigh (Juanita), Joseph Howard Raleigh (Louise) and one sister, Annette R.Freeman (Wesley), all of Greensboro, NC; a very special person in her life Tammy Varnadore of Greensboro, NC; and special cousin Kelvin Keyon Huntley (US Navy); two special lifelong friends; Yaw Nyako and Alton Lash and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Collins Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery 5210 Collins Grove Church Road Greensboro, North Carolina 27410.

I saddened to hear about the loss of Marilyn. I worked with her at Bank of America for many years. We ran into one another about a year ago and had a great conversation and our last words were, "I love you". Marilyn will be deeply missed.
