Maria Butler Henry, daughter of the late Willie Butler, Jr. and Kathleen Ravenell Butler was born June 23, 1951 in Greensboro, NC. She transitioned this earthly life on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Moses H. Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC.
At an early age, Maria joined Cedar Baptist Church, now known as Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise. She attended Sunday School, served on the Junior Ushers Ministry and faithfully in the Culinary Ministry. One of Maria’s gifts was baking. Regardless of the type of cake in question, Maria could produce it. She was extremely generous in giving and sharing her baked goods for funerals, bake sales, baby showers and other family gatherings., just to name a few. At times, she would have a reserved cake or two wrapped and sealed tightly in the freezer, just in case someone needed one.
Additionally, she attended Greensboro City Schools, which later renamed Guilford County Schools. She graduated from Grimsley Senior High School in 1969.
Maria immediately started working after graduating from high school. She labored for many years and achieved the position of manager at AT&T. After several decades of work, she retired from the company as manager Force at AT&T. In addition, she was a member of the Pioneer Club at AT&T.
When considering sporting events, Maria would let you know she was a diehard Pittsburg Steelers’ fan.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving and devoted husband, Earl J. Henry; brothers, Milton Butler (Albuquerque, New Mexico) Albert Butler and Elbert Butler (Greensboro, NC); god-son, JP Mooreman, god-daughter, Courtney Hammon-Dabney; and several other god-children. Also, fond memories are extended to her two aunts, namely Elizabeth Ravenell Wooten (Greensboro, NC) and Ernestine Ravenell Haizlip (Joe) (Chesapeake, VA.) Finally, she leaves recollections to a preponderance of very special cousins, and friends.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 4pm-6pm in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Guilford Memorial Park.

This morning it's with a heavy heart that we extend our deepest condolences to Earl, Milton, Elbert, Albert, family and friends of our beloved cousin Maria Antoinette Butler Henry. Maria and Earl were that couple that was significant of Black Love before the phrase was coined by society. I remember her pulling up to our house in her lime green Barracuda as a youngster, I said to my self she is a boss. And a boss she was. We will miss her but we know as believers we will meet her again. May the Lord continue to bless and keep you during this time. Love Adrienne (AG), Arvam and Elise.
