Mr. Jerry Watkins passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022. A service honoring his life will be held Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 2:30pm Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N. O'Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC.
Jerry Donald Watkins, loving husband, brother, father and grandfather passed away peacefully November 9, 2022.
Jerry, son of the late Charles Lynwood and Rosetta Watkins, was born March 26, 1939 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Harris. To this union, two children were born, Jerry Donald Watkins Jr. and Carl Brady Watkins. Jerry received his education in the Greensboro public schools and graduated from James B. Dudley High School (Class of 1957). After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, Jerry began his extensive and illustrious work career. He was employed by P. Lorillard Tobacco Company and Gilbarco before joining Bill Black Cadillac and Oldsmobile. He was the first full time African American Salesperson at this dealership. He was an exceptional salesman and was given top honors many times. He went on to open his own dealership, Jerry Watkins Cadillac GM Truck Inc. in Winston Salem. He was an exemplary General Dealer winning annual honors in business operations.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Elizabeth and siblings Josephine Brown, Willie Mae Perry, Loucille Watkins, Carrie Harper and Charles Watkins Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are sons Don and Carl, granddaughters, India and Megan, great-grandchildren Matthew, Savannah, Linden, Charity, Chasity, Chelsey and Chance, brother, Marvin Watkins (Jamesena) and brother in law Dr. John C. Harris along with many nieces and nephews.
