Mrs. Dorothy Johnson, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at her residence.
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so, shall we ever be with the Lord."
1 Thessalonians 4:17
Mrs. Dorothy Glover Johnson transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at her residence. She was born on January 19, 1931 to the late Joseph and Katie Glover in Guilford County, NC. She was preceded in death by her 9 brothers and sisters.
She grew up in the Pleasant Garden community and attended Goshen School on Randleman Road, which no longer exists. Later in life, she married Leroy Boston (Boss) Johnson. From this union, seven children were born. She was a woman who spoke her mind—feisty and outspoken in a playful way, and such a joy to be around. On May 23, 1964, her husband, Leroy Johnson, passed away, leaving her to raise their 7 children alone. She has been an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren guiding them with her loving care.
During her lifetime, she learned to be a loving caregiver. She cared for the late Professor Susan Barksdale's mother, Dr. Chris and Sally Newman's daughters, and other families as well. She was a member of United Institutional Baptist Church, where she enjoyed learning about the Lord.
She had an older sister named Eleanor and another sister, Thelma, who were both very close to her. They had three nieces, Willie Mae, Alma Jean, and Ruth, who were close to their age. They were like best friends and truly enjoyed each other’s company. All of them have preceded her in death, and now they are together again, enjoying one another's company.
Later in life, as she grew older, she needed a little more attentive care. Her children, along with other caregivers, began to care for her. She eventually moved in with her daughter, Sherrie. For the last few years, she lived with Sherrie and Tony. She lived a wonderful 93 years enjoying her family. They celebrated birthdays with parties and dinners, and great vacations together. She has been showered with love from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She leaves to celebrate her life and carry on her memory her children: Leroy Johnson (Veronica), Ronnie Johnson (Dianna), Van Johnson (Cynthia), Dorothy Locke (Jesse), Sherrie Godfrey, Tony Johnson, and Pamela Johnson, all of Greensboro, NC; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a very special niece: Geraldine Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 4, 2024 at 12:00 pm at United Institutional Baptist Church located at 802 East Market Street in Greensboro, North Carolina. The visitation will be held at 11:30 am before the service.
The burial will take place on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at Guilford Memorial Park located at 6000 Gate City Boulevard in Greensboro, North Carolina.
