Mrs. Doris Ree Lowe was born May 22,1944 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Ora Jones Barnes and the late James Haywood Barnes. After a long illness, she found eternal rest on February 9, 2023, at home surrounded by family.
Doris graduated George Washington Carver High school in Pinetop in May of 1962. She worked for J. P. Stevens, later known as Steve Co Knit, for several years until she took an early retirement. After retirement, she became a stay-at-home mom taking care of her husband, three children, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
She was a loving, generous person to all. If you ever needed anything, she would be more than willing to give a helping hand. She dedicated her life to her family and the church. She was known by all for her delicious soul food, such as her sweet potato pies, potato salad, and tater jacks. She loved crossword puzzles and was an awesome seamstress. She will be greatly missed and loved by all, but as she would tell everyone, “do the best you can do”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: James, Robert, Eddie, Charles, Ruth, Emma, Ora (Robert), Mary; her brother-in-law: Reverend James Moore; and her son-in-law: James Haywood Cheek, Jr.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband: Lawrence E. Lowe of fifty-three years; her three children; Anne M. Lowe, Lawrence E. Lowe, Jr, and Sheryl E. Cheek all of Greensboro, North Carolina; her grandchildren: Crystal Lowe, Jasmine Cheek, and Jada Cheek; great grandchildren: Kristen Anderson, Kahlil Anderson, Anayah Broadnax-Lowe, and Brooklyn Broadnax-Lowe; one sister: Miller Moore; brother-in-law: Robert Whitehead; and a host of other family and friends.

Kimberly Moore (Neal, James, Brianna, Michaela) Henderson
We extend our prayers of comfort and peace to the family, Uncle Lawrence, Ann, Cheryl and Lawrence Jr (Doodle). Some of the best memories of Aunt Doll included bringing my mom, Lee, to see her. They talked, laughed and had a good time. Aunt Doll would always show her latest Goodwill findings and give a piece or two to my mama and she made sure we didn't leave hungry - she was not cooking but always treated us to a meal. Her smile was priceless and would light up the room. Rest in heaven Aunt Doll. Love, Brenda (Carl), Pam, Monte', Brittany, Courtney, and Brianna.
I remember how she would always make you laugh with her stories.
I love you sister
Miller Barnes Moore
