Clayton (“ClayJay”) Nelson Sandifer was born on December 10, 1941, in Greensboro, NC to the late Edgar Lee Sandifer and Geneva Biggers Sandifer. On September 27, 2023, Clayton departed from his
earthly life surrounded by members of his close family.
Clayton attended Dudley High School within the Guilford County School System and was a member of the graduating class of 1960. Shortly after obtaining a high school education, he started his career at Lorillard Tobacco Company where he held
employment for 19 years.
After many years served, Clayton embarked on a new journey as an electrician at Watson Electrical
Construction Company, which was the start of his lucrative career that he sustained for many years.
Clayton enjoyed spending time with friends while playing cards in his “clubhouse.” Most importantly, he loved catering to his wife and family, ensuring that
no one left his presence empty handed. He also took pride in “talking big” about the accomplishments of each of his grandchildren. He will always be known
by his grandchildren, great-grands, nieces and nephews, nephews, for bringing lots of smiles, and
laughter as he always maintained a playful spirit.
Clayton was preceded in death by both of his parents Edgar L. Sandifer and Geneva B. Sandifer; six brothers, Charles, Richard, Riley, Roscoe, Edgar “June”, and Leon Sandifer; one sister. Mya Hughes, Clayton Pierce, Shareef Brown, Clayvonne Brown-Sandifer, Kiyon Peten, Tiara Sandifer; .
five great-grands; and a host of family, friends, and card playing ‘buddies’ who will miss him intensely

Funeral service will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 12:30pm Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home 909 E. Market St. Greensboro, NC. 12pm Visitation. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery 3600 N.O' Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC .
