The visitation will begin at 12:30 pm and the service will follow at 1 pm. The interment will be at Gwynns Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Pelhan, NC.

Carrie Maxine Brown Williams was born on Monday, September 15, 1941, to the late Rev. Joe Cephus and Bertha Badgett Brown in Pelham, North Carolina, as the fifth of ten children.

Her early years were spent on a tobacco farm in Pelham, North Carolina, in a home characterized by closeness, love, laughter, hard work, and Christian values. This environment laid the groundwork for her lifelong commitment to education, service, friends, family, and community. She deepened her Christian faith by attending Sunday School at Gwynn’s Chapel Baptist Church, where she was baptized and became an active member. Carrie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, North Carolina. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.

Carrie started her professional career as a social worker with North Carolina Mobility in Goldsboro, North Carolina, assisting the underprivileged and elderly. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Richard Williams. She later worked as a social worker with the Guilford County Department of Social Services and then dedicated 21 years of service to the City of Greensboro Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA).

After retiring from the City, Carrie began homeschooling her two grandsons, Malcolm and Martin. She actively supported them in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, encouraging Malcolm to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Although retired, she remained active by working as a school crossing guard, after-school tutor, substitute teacher, and precinct worker with the Board of Elections. Additionally, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. In her free time, she would often cook large pots of soup to serve the homeless and, on hot days, treat them to ice cream cones. She dedicated herself tirelessly to supporting her sister Betty Brown’s successful campaign for District Court Judge. Furthermore, Carrie had an avid love for pro basketball. She thoroughly enjoyed watching the NBA Playoffs and Finals with her family.

Carrie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served with humility and devotion in several ministries at Love and Faith Christian Fellowship. Her gratitude to God for the many opportunities and experiences she encountered was a testament to her unwavering faith and the source of her strength and generosity. As we bid farewell to Carrie Maxine Brown Williams, we remember the profound impact she had on our hearts and communities. Her legacy of integrity and compassion will continue to inspire future generations. We celebrate a life lived extraordinarily, not in sorrow, but with deep gratitude for the blessing of her presence among us.
