Mrs. Gladys Everett Desvignes of Marianna, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 14th at Vitas Healthcare Hospice in Panama City. She was 82 years of age.
Gladys was born February 3, 1941 in Marianna, Florida to Willie and Fannie Washington Everett. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of St. James AME Church during her youth. She attended the public schools of Jackson County and graduated in 1959. After completing a degree at Edward Waters College, she relocated to Jamaica, New York, where she worked for Drake Bakeries for over thirty years. Upon retirement, she returned to Marianna and reunited with St. James AME Church until her death.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and older brother Willie Everett, Jr.. She leaves treasured memories with one brother, David Everett (Sammie) of Lake City, Florida; four nieces, Kimberly Lynn (Michael) of West Palm Beach, Florida, Sadatra Everett of Baltimore, Maryland, Brandi Franklin (Rodney) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Bridget Everett of Orlando, Florida; cousins, Mary Peoples of Marianna, Florida and Louvenia Rice of New York; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Peoples Funeral Home on Friday, February 24th from 3-6p.m.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, February 25th at 11:00a.m. at St. James AME Church with Pastor Ronald D. Mizer, Rev. Jesse Douglas, Rev. Claude Holden, Bishop John McMillion officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Community Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
