With heartfelt love & prayers to the Hughes, Jernigan and Scales Family for the loss of beloved Beryl. As a city girl from Philly in the early eighties, I met the Jernigan family, I was truly welcomed with open arms and observed loving and wonderful family values, that exists unto this day. I have beautiful memories with enjoyable good times which fills my soul and heart with happiness. Beryl was loving, caring, an awesome wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and so much more, she'll be truly missed. Leaving a memory of what "Love, Endurance & Strength" means. I share fond thoughts of her wonderful cooking, I truly enjoyed her fantastic "Lemon-Pineapple Cake" with coconut, she cooked whenever I made the journey from Philly to visit my other loving home in Portsmouth, VA.... With Love, Prayers & Blessings, Debbie

We express our heartfelt sympathy to the Hughes, Jernigan, and Scales families on the passing of our dear friend and sister, Beryl Jernigan Hughes. I (Simonee) shall always cherish our sisterly friendship as we matured spiritually within the Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA. Beryl's unwavering commitment to leading the Youth Ushers' ministry spans years and through this assignment, Beryl exemplified her love of Saint Mark church while simultaneously working out her own soul's salvation with fear and trembling unto the rock of our salvation. I am so grateful that GOD allowed our paths to meet temporal but now focusing on the eternal, she is part of the great cloud of witnesses testifying to be absent in the body is to be present with the LORD forever! Hallelujah, for the grass withers and the flower fades but the WORD of our GOD stands forever. GOD will take care of you because HE is a very present help in our times of bereavement.
Lovingly, The Reverend Bernard Thomas & First Lady Simonee Thomas Little Bethel Baptist Church - Suffolk, VA

I think God for the family, there is nothing but love family! When they where in Portsmouth or New Bern, they would show there love. When I was on travel for my job in the area, they provided me with a family away from home. I think God for Beryl and her family, always a loving person! Lewis and Connie Taylor
