Mother Veloa Gray Leflore, the fifth child of the late Blutcher Gray and Stella Boyd Gray was born on May 3rd, 1940, in the Mt. Olive Community. She attended the public school system of Leake County and was a graduate of the Conway High School Class of 1959.
She was united in holy matrimony to Pratt (Docie) Leflore in May 1959. This union was blessed with six children. Pratt preceded her in death. She was employed with Daniel's Dry Cleaners, Garan Inc. for 25 years, and Leake Memorial Hospital for 14 ears.
At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member. She later joined Christian Union Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member and served faithfully as a Mother of the Church, on the Mission Board, and as an officer of the Pastor's Aide Club. She served diligently and motivated others to do the same. Not only did she love and serve her church family, but the members of the community at large. She was a great cook and many flocked to her home for her delicious egg pies and pound cakes. If anyone needed assistance, they knew they would find it in Mother Veloa.
She never said, “I can't.” As a result of her generous spirit and friendly personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers she planted, nurtured, and loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. As a mother she was nurturing, caring, loving, affectionate, patient, supportive, encouraging, forgiving and always there no matter what. She was the epitome of motherhood.
