Mrs. Margie Ree Dear was born August 26, 1937, in Leake County, Mississippi, to Henry and Maggie Jones, who preceded her in death.
Sister Dear accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She was an active member of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, where she later became the first lady, Sister Dear served faithfully as choir president until her health began to fail. She was married to the late Pastor Oscar Dear, Sr. In addition, to the union, they raised six children together.
Until her sickness, Sister Dear sang songs of praise at many church functions. Sister Dear's family was where her heart truly belonged, as was known to everyone who knew her. Especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook for her family every Sunday. She enjoyed gathering around the table in joyful fellowship, eating with family and friends, and singing. Sister Dear loved to bake cakes, pies, and work in the garden. Many people loved her. Her kindness, generosity, and sweet spirit touched many lives.
She was preceded in death by the late pastor Oscar Dear, Sr., four children, Roosevelt, Ellie Mae (Pimpy), Nathan, and Oscar Jr. (Shane). One granddaughter, Latoya Clayton, her parents, seven siblings, Cort, Bobby Joe, Kathleen, Mae Helen, Rufus, Maggie Alice, and Walter Earl.
Sister Dear is survived by her two children, one daughter Margaret (Marvin) Horton of Brandon, MS, and Pastor T.J. (Lula) Dear, Kosciusko, MS, and one sister, Algean Jones, Milwaukee, WI. Sister Dear has 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
