Frances Jeannette Barnes was born in Carthage, Ms. on March 27th, 1957 to the late Joe and Mable Barnes. She confessed Christ at an early age with First Baptist M.B. Church. She received her education in the Leake County School District. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1975.

Frances received a basketball scholarship with East Central Community College and Jackson State University. She received her M.S. and B.S. degrees from Jackson State University. Frances received her teaching credentials from Belhaven University. While at E.C. her basketball team won a championship. Later Frances was drafted into the WNBA.

Frances later moved to Miami, Florida where she stayed a number of years and later moved back to Mississippi. She began working with the Choctaw Tribal School as a P.E. teacher and coach at Red Water Elementary School and Standing Pine Elementary School. She continued to demonstrate her passion for basketball. Frances was 1st female basketball coach to lead her Red Water Braves to (2) Basketball Championship along with her assistant, Coach Wilson.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mable Barnes, two brothers; Billy Barnes and John Willie Barnes.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one sister; Cynthia Smith of Carthage, Ms. two brother; Joseph (Cornelia) Barnes of Dalton, ILL, Raymond (Debra) Barnes of Brandon, Ms. Her favorite Niece and nephew; Willimika and Ricardo Smith of Carthage, Ms. a very special family friend; Gail Moore of Jackson, Ms. a close friend Angela Leflore of Carthage, Ms. two God Children; Mason and Madison Leflore of Carthage, Ms. and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Frances was loved by many. She was a true leader to those who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
