It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. James Jacobs of Darlington. Mr. Jacobs expired on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Lawson Grove Baptist Church, Hartsville.
~Obituary~
Mr. James Jacobs, affectionately known as “Mydaddy” to both young and old was born in Darlington County on November 11, 1932. He was the 6th child of 13 children to the late Louie and Mary Pooler Jacobs. James departed from his Earthly life on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 in the comfort of his home.
He received his formal education in the Darlington County School System.
James was united in marriage to the late Evelyn Coe Jacobs and from their union five children were born; one daughter, Julie Diane Jacobs preceded him in death.
“Mydaddy” was a God fearing man, dedicated, loyal, and a hard worker. He was employed by Chesterfield Lumber Company where he was employed for
thirty-five years. Staying true to his character of dedication and hard work, James never missed a day of work. He demonstrated this character throughout his entire life. James loved to fish, work on cars, and occasionally tell old stories of the plantation where he and his siblings were raised. “Mydaddy” was a man of few words, but when he spoke it did count to all those who loved him.
“Mydaddy” leaves to cherish his loving memory: two daughters: Sandra Jacobs of the home, Mary Jeffery of Darlington, SC; two sons: Calvin (Janice) Jacobs and David Jacobs both of Darlington, SC; three grandchildren he reared as his own: Darryl (Keisha) Ham of Baltimore, MD, James Quinton Jacobs and Adrian Jacobs both of Darlington, SC, nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, six sisters: Mrs. Sadie Muldrow of Wilmington, NC, Ms. Nora Brown of Greensboro, NC, Mrs. Mabelle Moses, Mrs. Wilhelmenia Daniels, Mrs Annie Laura Hudson, Mrs. Alice Abson all of Darlington; two brothers: Mr. Wesley (Evangelist Mamie) Jacobs, and Melvin Jacobs of Baltimore, MD; 4 brothers-in-law, Mr. Woodrow McDaniels, Levern Coe, and Ernest Coe of Darlington, Larry Coe of Florence: 5 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jacobs, Lillian Coe, Cornelia Lighty, Deloris Brunson all of Darlington; Ruth Coe, Janie Jacobs, and Martha Bruce all of Baltimore, Maryland. and one aunt, Mrs. Goldie Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends which he cared for dearly.
James was preceded in death by three siblings: Mrs. Loris McDaniels, Mr. Bobby Jacobs and Mr. Bennie Jacobs.
Visitation for the Jacobs Family will be held at the residence, 212 F. Avenue, Darlington.
