Mr. Nathaniel Dickerson, 82, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at his residence in Albany, Georgia.
Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at the Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia 31711.
Nathaniel Richard Dickerson, Jr. was born on February 1, 1943, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Nathaniel Richard Dickerson, Sr. and Estelle Dickerson. Early in life, Nathaniel knew that he wanted to join the United States Army.
During his 20 years of military service, he received numerous awards and achievements: NSDM, NSM, VCM w/60 Dev, BS, VN AF Hon MDC (2 Class), Drill Sgt. Badge, ARCOM, AFEM (Korea), Gld Rctr Bdge w/1 SAPP STR, GCMDL (4 Award), VCG w/ Palm & MSM. During his military career, he served multiple tours of duty including the United States, as well as Korea, Germany, and Vietnam. His last military duty station was in Albany, Georgia where he served as Recruiting Area Commander for Southwest Georgia. He retired as a Master Seargent.
After retirement from the Army, he began working for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years, where he served as a Mail Handler, served in 204 B Mail Supervisor Program, and as a Mail Handler group leader. During his military career, he met the love of his life, Joan W. Dickerson. Joan loved him unconditionally and faithfully remained by his side until God called him home on March 30, 2025.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, a devoted wife of 58 years, Joan W. Dickerson; three children: Andre Dickerson Sr. - Chesapeake, Virginia, Nathaniel Richard Dickerson, III (Sharon) - Tallahassee, Florida, and Troy Dickerson Wright (Maurice) Leesburg, Georgia; and, five grandchildren: Anna Grace Dickerson (Jaylen) - SanDiego, California, Kennedy Dickerson - Leesburg, Georgia, Nathaniel Richard Dickerson, IV - Tallahassee, Florida, Nathan Dickerson (Aniya) - Savannah, Georgia, and Andre Dickerson, Jr. -Chesapeake, Virginia. He also cared for his former wife, Louise, and her children - Carmen (Benjamin) Harrison, Llewellynn (Judy), and Orhello Dickerson; one great-grandson: Jacinty Dickerson Savannah, Georgia. He had ten siblings; five sisters: Thelma (deceased), Madeline (Mac), Ethel, Paulette, and Cynthia (Earl); and five brothers: William (deceased), Marvin (Vickie), Reginald (Lisa), Tony (Susie), and Keith (Shannon). He had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that all loved him and will truly miss him.

I have only good things to say about this man and his wife. They are awesome and loving people. They helped me any time that I asked. He always kept me laughing and it didn't seem like I was his supervisor. He respected me and I gave him respect. We were friends! If you knew him, he will be missed!
