Dr. El-Roy Dixon, Sr., M.D., 66, of Leesburg, Georgia and formerly of Smailfield, St. Mary, Jamaica departed this life Friday, January 24, 2025 at his residence in Leesburg, Georgia.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 1:00 P. M. in the Emanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1534 W. Broad Avenue, Albany, Georgia.
Dr. El-Roy DeCourtenay St. Aubyne Dixon (January 17, 1959) was born to Lloyd Osbourne Dixon and Nerryl Barbara Thomas in his grandmother’s home in Smailfield, St. Mary, Jamaica. After ailing for some time, Dr. Dixon passed away in his Leesburg home on January 24, 2025.
Dr. Dixon graduated from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan with a Bachelor’s in Medical Technology. After 7 years as a medical technologist, he attended Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois where he obtained his doctorate with a speciality in ophthalmology. After graduation, he completed his residency at University of Chicago in Hyde Park.
In 1995, he relocated to Albany, GA for a job opportunity, with his family following a year later. Three and a half years later, he opened his solo practice Dixon Eye Care, located on Jefferson St. During his practice as an eye surgeon, Dr. Dixon became known for his exceptional surgical skills. Many patients have described Dr. Dixon as jovial with excellent bedside manner; he would take careful measures to ensure he was giving his patients the utmost care and respect while treating them for their eye ailments. They have commented on not only his positive demeanor, but also his singing of hymns and spirituals throughout the office.
Outside of his practice, his family and friends would describe Dr. Dixon as a supportive, kind, career driven man who took care of all who came across his path; it was safe to say he never met a stranger, a quality he would say he owes to his faith and religion as a Seventh Day Adventist. In his spare time, he loved to play golf, watch Sci-Fi and Kung-Fu movies, enjoy soccer games, travel at every chance he got, and spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Nerryl Thomas, son, Rondolph Dixon, daughter, Anastacia Dixon, and his siblings: Clover, Waverton (Robyn), O’Neil, and Bryce Dixon as well as other relatives.
Meadows Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Our deepest condolences. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. May you find comfort in the outpouring of love surrounding you and your family.
It doesn't feel right to text about El-Roy in the past, however, he was such a lovely man with a heart for the vulnerable, be it people or cats. A very special person. ❤️ We can't bring our loved ones back but we have the blessed hope to see them again in perfect health when Jesus returns. We *need* to make it to the Heavenly Kingdom!! God has done everything to save us! I want to meet Jesus, be reunited with our loved ones, meet the Bible characters and have eternity to do everything else. 🫂🙏🏽❤️. Be encouraged family and friends of El-Roy. I feel moved to share a Psalm. Psalm 116: 15 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Might seem a bit odd at first, so here is an explanation... According to the Bible, particularly Psalm 116:15, the "death of a saint" is considered "precious in the sight of the Lord," meaning that God deeply cares about the death of his faithful followers and does not take it lightly; it is a significant event in God's eyes, signifying a high value placed on the life of a believer even in their passing. Be Comforted ❤️ Sharon Wallace (friend)

Dr. Dixon was more than a doctor, he was a teacher. We spent many long days at work learning. Yes I complained about it then, but I told him how much I appreciated him after I left. I started working at another busy office but the job wasn't as hard because Dr. Dixon had taught me so much! Because of him, I was the only tech (besides one other person at my new job) that could refract and identify cataracts by looking into a patient's eyes. I learned so much from D.E.C! Thank you so much Dr. Dixon, you were a "Great" man! My condolences to his Family ❤️
My deepest condolences and prayers to the family, may GOD comfort you in this time!
