Samuel Ellis Morrison, “69”, passed away on Saturday, March 29th at his home in Rock Hill, SC. He was a son of the late Rev. Robert and Esterlene Morrison. He was the loving, humble and devoted husband of Nadine Dunlap Morrison.
Samuel Morrison often called “Sam” by his family and friends received his education in the Lancaster County School System where he graduated from Indian Land High School in 1973.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Steele Hill AME Zion Church in Lancaster, SC where he served in many capacities. He was the Vice Chairman of the Trustee Board, a Class Leader, Lead Guitar Player, and a member of the Steele Hill Men and Mass Choirs.
Sam had a passion for quartet music. He was a member of the Gospel Trumpeteers of Lancaster, SC, which, two of his brothers were also members and the Gospel Persuaders of Rock Hill. He played the lead guitar and sang background in both groups. He wrote several songs, some of which were recorded by the Gospel Persuaders.
He leaves cherish his wonderful memories: his wife Nadine Morrison of the home, two daughters Shameika Withers (Ken) of Charlotte, NC, Sheena Morrison of Rock Hill, SC, grandchildren Raseac Myles and Cierra Morrison both of Rock Hill, SC, one great grandchild, Ezra Sherer, Father-in-law, Johnny Dunlap, Sr, of Fort Mill, SC, five brothers, Robert Morrison Jr, Willie Morrison, Mozell Morrison (Gloria), Ray Morrison (Sandra) all of Lancaster, SC and Lester Morrison(Margretta) of Mineral Springs, NC, three sisters, Mae Barber, Margaret McIlwain (Clarence) and Queenetta Adams (Jerry) all of Lancaster, SC. Two God children, LaTanya Norse-Smith (Charles) and Ramorn Norse both of Rancho Cordova, California, two aunts, Francis Morrison of Lancaster, SC and Julia Morrison of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, five sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services are 1 pm, Saturday, April 5th at Steele Hill AME Zion Church in Lancaster, SC by the Rev. Eldren D. Morrison with burial in the church cemetery.
Viewing is 1 pm-5 pm, Friday, April 4th at McMullen Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The family will be receiving friends at the home.

To Nadine the girls and all family members word can not express how sorry I was to learn of Sam's passing. He was a quite gentlemen and I enjoyed listening and watching him play that guitar.
