Mrs. Sellerstine Campbell of Blytheville, Arkansas, a pillar of strength and love, passed away peacefully at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on December 15, 1931, in Holly Grove, Arkansas to Nathaniel McClair and Blanche Cook McClair. As a young lady, she confessed her hope in Christ and united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, later joining True Light Missionary Baptist. Serving the Lord at True Light, Mrs. Campbell was a member of various church groups such as Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Society President, Youth Choir Advisor, President of the Mother’s Board, and as an Adult Choir Member. She worked diligently with Vacation Bible School as she had a great love for the youth. Over the years her generosity and kind spirit touched many lives. Her hands were always busy, in the community and at church. Mrs. Campbell gained quite a reputation for her top-tier coconut cakes and delectable chicken salad.
“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies." On June 6, 1948, Robert Campbell saw in the young Sellerstine a reflection of Proverbs 31:10, Thus, remaining husband and wife for 65 years.
Known for her fashion, style, poise, and grace, Mrs. Campbell was always impeccably dressed whether she was in church wearing a beautiful suit, with her matching handbag, shoes, and her smile softly peaking from beneath a dazzling, showstopper hat or at the grocery store, with her make-up perfectly applied, and not a hair out of place.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Arlington McClair; three sisters, Florestine Tucker, Hildred Brock, and Mildred Depp; and her beloved husband, Robert Campbell, Sr.
Mrs. Campbell leaves behind a legacy of love with four children, Robert (Patricia) Campbell of Houston, Texas; Shirley Campbell-Pulliam of Blytheville, Arkansas; Chree Crisco of Germantown, Tennessee; and Johnnie Campbell also of Blytheville, Arkansas; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her True Light Church Family; other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday evening April 19, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 South Lilly Street, Blytheville, Arkansas.
The Campbell Family and the Blytheville community will honor Mrs. Sellerstine Campbell as we celebrate the joy of a life well lived on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 12:00 noon at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1630 West Street, Blytheville, Arkansas where Reverend Bennie Washington is the pastor.
