Obituary For Essie Mae Hunt

Ms. Hunt was born on July 7, 1944 to the late Bill & Flora Brackett in Pinehill, AL. She was the 5th of 8 children. On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 she exchanged her earthly life for her eternal life. She was 75.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Pinehill AL. In 1962, she graduated from Annie Manie High School in Wilcox AL.

In February 1965, she moved to Los Angeles, CA where she resided over 20 years. She joined Sweet Union Missionary Baptist Church which later merged with Philippian Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a Sunday school secretary, deaconess, pastor’s aide committee, and a choir member. She worked in the school system as a classroom assistant at the 49th Street School & Purche Avenue Elementary.

In 1988, she moved to Mobile AL and resided until God called her home. She was employed with the Mobile County School System as a cafeteria worker. On May 15, 2008, she retired after 30 years of service.

When she moved to Mobile AL in 1988, she joined the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Clyde Maye, Jr. Her faithfulness and labor of love will never be forgotten. She loved her pastor and she loved to serve. She was a member of the missionary choir and pastor’s aide committee.

Essie had a passion to serve others. She was a woman of principle and had great determination. She enjoyed being at home and spending time with her family that she loved dearly. She was a great provider for her family. She had a special love and bond with her grandchildren. To her, the grandbabies could do no wrong. She loved to sing, cook and especially bake cakes. Laughter was always good for her soul. She had a sense of humor that would bring tears to your eyes. She read her bible daily. She loved her pastors, Pastor Howard and Rev. Maye, Jr. She was also active with schools and did a lot of volunteer work. She had a loving spirit that impacted many people and she showed hospitality to all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Flora Brackett; two brothers, David and Clarence Brackett; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Holloway; and nephews, Napoleon Rambo, Jr., Eric Brackett, and Clarence Brackett, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Debbie Faye Brackett, Thomasville AL, Sheldon (Marchette) Brackett, Torrance CA, and Kristy Hunt, Daphne AL; two sisters, Corean Banks, Los Angeles CA and Jewel Phelps, Ponoma CA; two brothers, Clinton (Lucille) Brackett, West Palm Beach FL and Norman Brackett, Atlanta GA; three grandchildren, Gabrielle (Corey)Griffin, Los Angeles CA, Xavier Brackett, Torrance CA and Jordan Holloway, Daphne AL; one great grand, Amir Griffin, Los Angeles CA; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Homegoing Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 11a.m. from the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church #2, 251 N. LaFayette Street, Mobile AL 36603, Reverend Hubert Baker, Pastor and Reverend Dr. Clyde Maye, Jr., eulogist.
