NINA YEVETTA MAXIE SMELTZ was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Jessie Mae Stern and Edward Lloyd Maxie.
She received her formal education in the Harrisburg School District/William Penn Vo-Tech Campus where she studied Cosmetology, excelling in academics. Nina worked various jobs in the Harrisburg area but her best job she ever had was doing hair.
In Nina’s leisure time she enjoyed canning, gardening, listening to music (Michael Jackson “Thriller” was one of her favorite songs), singing and spending time with family and friends. She treated everyone she met like family. Nina’s conversations were always about her husband, her children and her loving dog Cream.
On Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 51 years, Nina transitioned to the Golden Gates of Heaven at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Nina’s husband Robert Smeltz preceded her in death along with her grandparents, Harvey Lee Stern and Mildred Lee Crawford Stern.
She leaves to carry on her legacy of life, her parents; her brothers, Robert Stern, Anthony Stern, Carlos McClure and Edward Purdy; her sisters, Tisha Barber and Shawna Purdy-Beaver; her children, Kevin, Khalil and Jessie. Her grandchildren, Elizet Ace and Leia Alaine Kolva. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her 2 best friends, Shannie Manning-Black and Tiffany Proctor- Solomon.
Nina's life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 with viewing and visitation 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Avenue, Harrisburg and burial in Paxtang Cemetery.
