Obituary For Linda Fay Burney Rooks

With grateful hearts, we celebrate the blessed life of Linda Fay Burney Rooks. On May 22, 2024 at the age of 65 she peacefully transitioned worshipping God with her children by her bedside. She took her final breath in sync with one of her favorite songs playing, Going Up Yonder by Tramaine Hawkins. Linda was born in Tacoma, Washington. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Linda graduated from Channel Islands High, she then went on to Ventura Community College and then enlisted as an Air Force Reservist where she served from 1981 to 1987. During that time, she married and had three beautiful children. Linda dedicated her life to her family, and community. She was known for her kindness, generosity and unwavering support. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and attending church.

In addition to her parents, Odessa and Lonnie Charles Burney, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Anthony and Larry Burney.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. She is survived by her children, Marcus Stinson, Theodore O. Rooks III and Ashley Rooks; her grandchildren, Eli Strawn, Ethan Rooks and Jaxon Fletcher; her siblings, Erma Duffy, Lester Burney, Sarah Burney-Harris and Lisa Burney; she is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Linda was a pillar of strength and a source of endless love and encouragement for her family and an active member of The Bridge of Faith International Ministries.

In her free time, Linda enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music, spending time with family and friends, shopping, going on bus trips with her longtime friend Cathy Hollis, talking to her best friends since grade school Carolyn and other friends such as Kathy Windom, Exie Jacobs, Tracey Ray and spending time with her grandsons. She had a passion for God and always directed her children to the word during trials and tribulations. Linda’s faith brought her much joy and fulfillment. Her home was always open to her children.

Linda had a smile that could light up a room and was a friend you could count on to be there in your time of need. Her kindness and love was what drew many to her. Linda believed if God brought you to it, He can and will bring you through it. She had a tough but practical approach to life, but one thing you knew, she was always coming from a place of love and encouragement.

Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Paxtang Cemetery.

We will miss Linda dearly, but we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain and at peace. Her love and warmth will remain in our hearts forever.
