Obituary For Elder Patricia Sexton

Elder Patricia Ann (Simmons-Green) Sexton, 76, of Highspire, PA, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away on June 17, 2024 at Pottstown Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a decade’s long battle against kidney disease.

She was born in York, Pennsylvania to the late Marie Grinnage Simmons and the late Edward R. Simmons.

Patricia also known as Mrs. Pat, Patty Ann and Tricia was born and raised in York, PA. She once wrote “I had a beautiful childhood, I had a wonderful life. I stayed in York until I was 12 years old then left and moved to Hbg., PA”. Her one desire was to move back to York. While in Harrisburg, she was a stay at home mother until her children were older, which is when she earned her GED and studied to become a cosmetologist. She later decided to work in the corporate sector for several years.

On November 22, 1998, Elder Sexton received her Certificate of Ordination by authority and order of the Full Gospel Evangelistic Ministry Church of Harrisburg, PA. She would continue to receive Accolades and Certifications including Certificates of achievement from Abundant Life Ministries International School of Biblical Studies of Harrisburg in 2003, Full membership in the All Nations Evangelistic Church in 2006, Certificates of Training from the department of Health for HIV/STD/& Hepatitis C Training, 2006 and 2007. In her younger years, Patricia played the clarinet and took ballet and dance. She had a talent for painting although she only did it for her windows during Christmas and she loved writing about her life, even speaking with a few publishers over the years. She spent most of her younger years visiting Crispus Attucks in York where her father, whom she absolutely adored worked. She loved praise dancing, swimming and ice skating and made sure her children did too. Even with 3 kids she always found time to play her favorite board games, Backgammon and Sorry. If you looked closely at her artwork on her wall you would see that she knew her way around large complex puzzles. It was an activity she enjoyed her entire life.

Patricia was a strong believer in God and the Lord Jesus Christ and did everything in her power to share the Gospel. She loved to sing, teach bible studies and above all get dressed and go to Church. Since the 70s, her life revolved around her Churches and their activities, singing, teaching and serving anyway she could. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling when possible, going to live concerts, plays and anything Tyler Perry. Above all she loved her “grandbabies”.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon W. Green; her husband, Lewis E. Sexton; her sister, Joan L. Simmons; her two brothers, Ronald and Edward Simmons and her only son, Leon W. "Winky" Green II.

Patricia leaves to celebrate her life and to cherish precious memories of her, two daughters, Sonja Green-Johnson (Hafiz Johnson, deceased) and Teresa Green-Gassert (Gary Wetzel); a son-in-law, Danny Gassert; step daughters, Monica L. Moore of Landover, MD and Shelbrece ‘Angel‘ Sexton of York; 9 grandchildren, Robert Green, Stephen Green, Teronya Green-Rhyns (Shundre), Ryan Gassert (Sarah), Leondra Green, Devon Gassert, Justin Gassert, Olivia Green and Tamia Green; 7 great grandchildren, Kevontae, Zariah and Caiden Green, Nora Gassert, Laniya Mitchell, Alora Green, Kalani Stazewski; a sister-in-law, Barbara L. Green of Harrisburg and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
