Obituary For Delores "Lola" Fitzgerald

Delores V. Fitzgerald “Lola”, 92, of Harrisburg, peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Friday, December 31, 2021 at UPMC Osteopathic Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Fuquay Springs, Wake County, NC, daughter of the late Matthew, Sr. and Carrie (Cooper) McClain, was educated in the schools of Fuquay Springs. Delores moved to Harrisburg, PA in 1950. She always had a fondness for the time she lived on the 2600 block of Jefferson Street, where many memories were mad She loved God and enjoyed the time she spent with her family. With a love to nurture and care for others, she had a fulfilling career in healthcare and retired after three decades as a Labor & Delivery Nurse at the former Polyclinic Hospital. Her purpose was not wasted, because Delores could be found volunteering her time outside of the hospital caring for others, particularly as a member of the nursing unit at her church. Known for her humor and sass she didn’t pull any punches. She often left you laughing from one of her many sayings; one favorite - “I ain’t a hankering for no trouble, but then again I ain’t a running!” Delores was the widow of Walter Fitzgerald and in addition to him and her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her son, Darryl Garrett and her five siblings. She leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte L. and Albert Nelson of Harrisburg; her three granddaughters, Dara L. Bostic and husband, Eric, Jami S. Brooks and husband, Andre and Kacy J. Gambles; her four great-grandchildren, Daizah l. Warren, Isaiah S. Bostic, Andrew T. Brooks and Kaycen K. Gambles and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Her life will be celebrated on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 12 Noon in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton, PA with viewing 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery.
