Obituary For Celia Davenport
Celia Mae Mack Davenport was born to the late Ernest and Lillian A. Mack in Saluda County, South Carolina.
She received her education at Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, South Carolina. Being reared in the church, Celia Mae accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at the Phillipi Baptist Church. As a member, she was a faithful member of the Junior and Senior Usher Boards.
In 1953, Celia Mae moved to Harrisburg, PA, where she met and married her husband, the late Thomas F. Davenport, Sr. and they had five children. During this time, she became a member of Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. J. H. Marshall.
As a dedicated member, she served as a member of the Senior Usher Board, past President and advisor of the Junior Usher Board, past President of the Nurses’ Unit, Vice-President of the Flower Club, and a member of the Interdenominational Women’s Association. She also was a member of the Central District Nurses and Esther Chapter No.1, and past Matron of the Eastern Star.
Through Celia Mae’s love of Christ, she also loved unconditionally her family and everyone she encountered. Her smile was infectious, and her conversations would leave you with words of wisdom to last a lifetime.
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Celia Mae transitioned from labor to reward at Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Harrisburg, PA.
Celia Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, Sr.; daughter, Benzina Willia Mae and her loving grandson, Thomas III. She leaves to cherish memories of her, her children, Mertha Davis of Leesville, SC, Lillie B. Davenport of New York, NY and Thomas, Jr. of Harrisburg, PA; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her life will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Friday, March 21, 2025 in the Sanctuary of her church, The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Avenue, Harrisburg with viewing and visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon and burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
