Obituary For Burlee "Vera" White

BURLEE “VERA” WHITE was born into the United House of Prayer in Savannah, Georgia to Louvater Burke Jones and Henry Jones.

She and her mother moved to Steelton, Pennsylvania in 1943 when she was twelve years of age. She attended Steelton School before moving to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she attended William Penn High School. During this time, she was very active in the House of Prayer, participating in the marching band, the Majorettes and serving in the youth department.

After she graduated high school, she married Raymond Gilbert White, Sr. Raymond and Vera had three children together - Angela, Raymond, Jr. and Patricia. Vera continued to be deeply connected to the House of Prayer, serving as cabinet secretary, house secretary and serving on the business board. In addition to these leadership positions, she prepared many dinners for the Church and utilized her musical talent by serving as a pianist as well as forming the singing group McCollough Highlights. She organized fashion shows, luncheons and anniversary programs. She also brought up a care committee, which created and provided care baskets for the sick and shut-in. Throughout her time with the church, she stayed as an active member of the United Sisters up until her health declined.

Burlee “Vera” White, at the age of 93 years, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at the Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great grandchild, Raygan Lewis and she leaves to mourn her life, her daughter, Angela (White) Murray; her son, Raymond White, Jr., both of Harrisburg PA; her daughter, Patricia (White) Harris of Norristown, PA; her five grandchildren, Shawn Murray of Harrisburg, PA, Koren Scates of Harrisburg, PA, Matthew Harris of Philadelphia, PA, Caleb Harris of Elkton, MD and Sakeem White of Harrisburg, PA; her great-grandchildren, Vanity Lewis, Maygan Lewis, Christian Scates and Demetrius Murray, all of Harrisburg, PA.

Mom, you will always be deeply missed, you were our Queen B.

Her life will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Friday, July 12, 2024 in the Sanctuary of the United House of Prayer for All People, 349 Reily Street, Harrisburg with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon and burial in Paxtang Cemetery.
