Deacon Betty R. Jones was born to the late Johnnie B. Jones and the late Arrie B. McClendon Jones in Dawson, GA. She relocated with her family to Steelton, PA in 1948.
She received her formal education at the Steelton-Highspire High School and from the Equipping the Saints School of Ministry.
After her graduation from high school, she began working for The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Bureau of Employment Security. She worked there for approximately 2 years. Later, she accepted a job for the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation where she worked for three years. After that, she worked at the Public Utility Commission since 1969.
At the tender age of 7 years old, she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and became a member of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church when it was located on the West Side of Steelton. She was a faithful member and served as a member of the Choir, Chairman of the Board of Christian Education, a Sunday School teacher, and a member the Prayer and Bible Band.

She faithfully sent out text messages to many people with words from the Scriptures to keep everyone encouraged. Even the day before her passing, she took the time to send out her message at 3:18 in the afternoon to all those on her mailing list.
In her leisure, she loved to shop online for gadgets, cook and share meals with her Family and Friends. She also enjoyed watching game shows and her favorite soap opera, General Hospital on television and cheering for her favorite basketball team, the Golden State Warriors. She loved to play Scrabble and she let everyone know that she had the intention of winning the game, no matter what!
But more than ANYTHING else, she loved praising the Lord and feasting on His Word.
A few days before her passing, she expressed to some that she was tired of feeling sick in her body and was ready to "go home". She said she had made her peace with God and she was just waiting for Him to come get her. And that Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024, at Oak Hill Village Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 78 years, 18 days, He told her to come on home to rest.

I have known Betty all my life. We were in Mt. Calvary B.C. together with our families. When the family lived on Front Street I always made my way to visit the family. Betty never had a negative word about anyone but always had that pleasant and welcoming smile. She will be missed but she long to be with the Lord . Rest well Betty and I will see you again.
Aunt Betty's nephew Darren is married to my daughter. The first time we met Betty was at a picnic. This lady welcomed us with open arms and her lovely smile she always had on her face. We talked, laughed and told stories for hours. The times we spent with her at different occasions were precious. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of this caring and loving angel. You will be missed. Teresa Frankford Ephrata PA
