Mary Gomez Salinas, age 87, a resident of Truth or Consequences, NM, passed away with family at her side on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. She was born on March 7, 1936, to Fred and Ida (Pompa) Gomez. She had three sisters and two brothers.
Mary was born in Carlsbad, NM and met Chris at a young age. They attended San Jose Catholic Church and Carlsbad High School. After high school, Mary attended Business School in Albuquerque. She married Chris in 1963 after he was discharged from the Air Force and started a family. They lived in Carlsbad NM, Hayward CA, El Centro CA then T. or C. NM when Chris was transferred to the US Border Patrol Station. Mary retired from the T. or C. Municipal Schools working many years as an Educational Aid then Elementary Secretary. She loved taking care of the kids and families in our community. Being Grandma βNonniβ was her greatest love and accomplishment. She cherished every minute, and we are so grateful that they knew how much she loved them.
Mary is survived by her loving spouse, Chris Salinas; and their children: Cyndie and her husband, Jeff Bray, Lisa Norstrom, and John and his wife, Mara Salinas. She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Elly and Emma Bray & Noah and Amelia Salinas.
βOur Nonni was known to be patient, kind, and caring. She gave us the warmest hugs and caused the biggest smiles. Her selfless nature and tenderness of heart made her the best grandmother we could have ever asked for.β
Mary was a devout member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She found solace and strength in her faith.
A Rosary Prayer Service in memory of Mary Salinas will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, followed by Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Michael Williams at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Truth or Consequences, NM. A Graveside Service will follow the Mass. Mary will be laid to rest at Vista Memory Gardens.
Mary will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. May she rest in peace. God bless you Nonni.
