Barbara Jean Hildreth was born in Nicholasville, AL to Cottrell and Lillie Brackett on December 12, 1933. Barbara gave her life to Christ at a young age which established a firm foundation for how she would live the rest of her life. She graduated from Marengo High School where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Alfonso Hildreth, on June 11, 1954.
She entered eternal rest on January 27, 2024 at the age of 90. Her passing came after a lengthy hospital stay for Parkinson’s related dementia.
Barbara was a devoted wife and mother, who worked tirelessly to give her family the best life. She gave birth to three children, Bernie, Torres and Alfreada. Some of her hobbies and interests were sewing, baking, arts and crafts, reading, and NBA basketball.
Due to her love of working with young people, Barbara spent her working life as a Group Home Counselor for the Youth Development Center for 24 years. After her work retirement, she continued and expanded her strong Christian beliefs by becoming a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. As a church member, she served as a Deaconess, as a Mentor in the Mentor/Mentee program, senior Bible study class, and as a Sunday school teacher.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Torres Hildreth and wife Cheryl; Bernie Hildreth and daughter Alfreada Sanders and husband William; grandchildren Tyler, Kristin, Nicole, Matthew, Justin and Brandon Sanders; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loving cousins.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Monday, February 12, 2024, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1223 Laney Walker Blvd. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens. Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home. (706) 790--8858

I was shocked to hear that Barbara had died. I talked with her on the phone twice she was having problems hearing me. I called after her birthday. We were friends for a very long times. May God strength you all. Mrs. Winbush
