I have been knowing Carter for 30 years. We met at Fort Campbell and have been great friends ever since. I would say more of a brother than a friend. We shared our love of this Country,Army,Family and our passion for collecting guns. We have done dozens of gunshots together, and also shared a failed attempt to make knives out of the worst materials available, just to see if we could succeed, we didn't, we failed miserably and laughed about it for years. When me and Carter were together there was never a dull moment and plenty of laughs. I will miss my brother truly and I miss him now. My deepest condolences go out to the family. I am so sorry for the loss you have suffered. We have lost a great friend, father, husband, brother, and opa. RIP my brother until we meet again... Cliff and Catina Poindexter

He was a great artist and always fun and uplifting whenever you saw him. It was my pleasure to help initiate/organize the first group show class The Business of Being An Artist years ago that he participated in. (a group collaboration between GHIA, JNSA, GGAC, and many more art organizations ) Original, thought provoking, and well executed, his work (particularly his wood carving work ) is part of the beauty that he leaves behind. I will always cherish his art in my collection and all the conversations and laughs that he shared. You will be missed Don. Thoughts of peace and healing for all who love him.

Last time I saw pops when I retired from the Army and came and stayed with him and Ma when I picked up my car in GA when the Army shipped it from Europe. I got him to take a photo in 2015 with me and he showed me a bunch of his carvings and walking sticks he made. I met him when he was our Senior Enlisted professor for ROTC at ASU in 2003 and I always thought of him as my second Pops after that and hung out every chance I could. "heart" He always had those cool sayings and bits of knowledge and was such a multifaceted AMAZING man! "heart" You GREATLY missed Pops! "heart" The world lost a LEGEND and heaven gained a Leader! I'm so saddened to hear of your loss. It's been at least 15 years since I saw Don and we had never found each other on Facebook, but I immediately remembered him when I heard of the news. He was a really great guy, and I enjoyed being around him back in college. He really was a special character, and I can't imagine anyone being anything but happy when he was around. He was committed to the things he did, and he always made an active effort to be as helpful, friendly, and fun to be around as possible. This truly is a great loss, and I'll keep you all in my thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was classmates with Don at ASU and he was my biggest cheerleader for me and my kids. He made me 2 canes and a scepter that are always admired by folks everywhere I go. He was always cracking us up in class with his wit and also his thought provoking words of wisdoms. When me and my kids went back to visit the US 2 years ago, I made sure to go back to Augusta to meet up with him. Rest in Power Don.

Donnie is a cousin of mine. Time and distance parted us. I can only speak of early memories that we shared. The oldest of 4 with a drive to serve and achieve. Given the time period we were young, that was remarkable. Donnie will always stand in front for me. Good rest to you cousin, RIP

Very sad to hear this. Don always lit up the room when he walked into the department office where I worked in college. He was always very positive, cheerful and encouraging. He will be missed. Rest in peace.

Don was a great friend, Soldier and Brother. Ever the warrior he fought many challenges in life and was always successful by anyone's standard. We served together in the Army since 1993/94 and remain friends until the end. He was great leader and mentor to many. Rest in Peace my friend.

On September 14, 2023, you called me. To this day, I still feel like it was no accident. On December 5, 2023, you posted how you missed your mother. On that day, I felt something wrong. On a new year, God came to take you to see your mother and father. Both you loved so dearly. I miss them both and now I´m going to miss my "big bro" until we meet again.
