Mrs. Emma Mae Grier Thomas was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 7, 1937, to the late Edward and Maggie Leary.
On Friday, December 8, 2023, she quietly and peacefully transitioned to glory at the
Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster.

Emma enjoyed gardening, shopping, completing crossword puzzles, coloring, traveling, watching basketball, spending quality time with her fur companion Liz, and being surrounded by family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Maggie Leary, her husband, Sylvester Thomas, and siblings Anniebelle Mason, Broadie Grier, Eddy Leary, and Mamie Leary.

Emma is survived by her five children, Slyvester Thomas Jr. (Angela) of Charlotte, NC, Reginald Thomas of Charlotte, NC, Ricky Thomas (Virginia) of Charlotte, NC, Danny Thomas of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sari Broadie (Rev. Dell McKinnon) of Matthews, NC; 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, her beloved Godson Steve Boyd (Janice), and her best friends Mrs. Brown and Mrs. McMurray.

The Homegoing Services for Mrs. Emma Thomas will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Steele Creek A.M.E. Zion Church.
The wake will be held from 12pm-1pm and the funeral will be from 1pm-2pm. Burial will follow at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.
