Mr. Thay Jones Jr. 92, of 656 S. Center St. Spartanburg, SC, entered eternal rest on January 3, 2024, after a sudden illness at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. He was the son of the late Mr. Thay Jones Sr. and Mrs. Albertine Ferguson.
Mr. Jones was a Koren War Veteran, employed at Harley Bag, and retired from Michelin Tires after years of service.He was a dedicated Assistant Scouts Master. He played softball for Deal’s Market and the Assistance coach for the baseball team.
He was a faithful and longtime member of Greater New Zion Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Associate Minister and the founding father of Kingdom New Life Apostolic Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Mr. Aaron (Joanne) Jones of Lyman, SC, Bishop. Cathaye (Terrell) Jones of Moore, SC,and Mr. Chris (Nicole) Brandon of Clarksville, TN; threedaughters, Sheila (Timothy) Dominick, Tracy Jones all of Spartanburg and Tanaya Johnson of Columbia, SC., and one beloved sister, Mrs. Anita (Frank) Phelps of Welford, SC. A nephew (son) reared in the home Timothy (Sharon) McCreary and a host of grands, great-grands, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death one son, Mr. Terry Bonds and three brothers, TB Jones, Theordore Jones, and Rueben Jones, and seven sisters Gladys Smith, Lila Peake, Helen (Het) McClure, Barbara Littlejohn, Francis McCreary, Dorothy Thomas, and Alice Jones.
A Celebration of the Life of Rev. Thay Jones Jr. will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Kingdom New Life Apostolic Church, 323 Sibley St., Spartanburg, SC 29301. Burial will be in the Stephen Grove AME Zion Church Cemetery, 440 Stephen Grove Rd. Spartanburg, SC 29301.

Spartanburg family, I am sad to see the last living brother of my grandfather is gone, but glad to know he is with our Heavenly Father and the rest of his family. We know Uncle Thay loved the Lord with all his heart and knew his word so I can only imagine that his soul is rejoicing in the fact that he finished his race with honor!
