Phillip Earl Rookard

Spartanburg, SC- A soldier was called home on Sunday morning, July 26, 2020 when Mr. Phillip Earl Rookard of Spartanburg, SC peacefully entered into eternal rest.

Phillip was born on September 19, 1960 in Spartanburg, SC to Johnny and Shirley Rookard. He was the widower of the late Lethia K. Rookard. He joined the United States Army on September 21, 1978 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Fort Hood, TX for most of his military career and conducted tours in Korea and Germany. He was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and received the following awards/recognitions: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Expert Marksmanship Qualifications Badge.

Phillip was a brave and loyal soldier and devoted husband and father. He possessed a bold personality and infectious sense of humor. He was an animated storyteller with a knack for making others laugh.

Left to cherish many fond memories are: two daughters, Ms. Porsche C. Rookard of the Spartanburg, SC and Tayonaca N. White of Austin, TX; one son, Mr. Ta’Ray E. Rookard of Austin, TX; three siblings, Ms. Pamela G. Johnson of the home; Mrs. Janice Salters (Howard) of Spartanburg, SC; and Mr. John Rookard of Chesnee, SC; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lethia K. Rookard, and his parents, Mr. Johnny Earl Rookard and Mrs. Shirley Ann Rookard

A Celebration of the Life of Phillip Earl Rookard will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard Street, Spartanburg, SC.
