Jonesboro, GA - Gennell Josephine Byrd Toliver, 70, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Mrs. Toliver was born on September 15, 1947 to the late Winfield and Viola Byrd. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1965. Gennell attended Brooklyn Technical College where she was certified in Pest Control Technology and The Academy of Public Records Research where she was certified as a Public Records Business Development Specialist. Mrs. Toliver moved to Brooklyn, NY shortly after graduating where she worked for M&M Jewelry Company. After two years of service with M&M Jewelry Co. she began her career with New York Telephone Company. She retired from New York Telephone Company as an Order Writer Specialist after twenty eight years of service. Gennell married Eddie Toliver who was a loving person and good friend on September 4, 1977. They dedicated their lives to helping others in need. Mrs. Toliver received certification of achievement from the Town of Hempstead NY Department of Services for the Aging and The Nassau County Department of Social Services for Selection of Foster and Adoptive Families. Gennell enjoyed helping others in need. Gennell was preceded in death by: three brothers, Winfield T. Byrd, Jr., James W. Byrd and Johnny B. Byrd; and two sisters, Virginia R. Smith and Ida Louise Hawkins. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her husband, Edward Toliver; her three sisters, Mary Fernandos, Bernice (John) Coan and Juanita Copeland; her brother, Bobby (Druella) Byrd;her sisters-in-law, Van-Dora Shields and Valerie S. Shields; her brothers-in-law, Tommie Jackson, Leonardis R. Shields, Bennie Shields and Kenneth R. Shields; her special niece, Doris Byrd; her special brother-in-law, Dennis R. Shields;her close friend, Sylvia Burton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of the Life of Gennell Josephine Byrd Toliver will be held on Saturday February 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Foster Chapel Baptist Church, 2800 Stone Station Rd., Roebuck, SC. Rev. Dr. Patrick Suber will officiate. Burial will be in the Heritage Memorial Chapel, 3901 S. Church St., Roebuck, SC.
