Obituary For Mary Hicks

Spartanburg, SC – Mary Elizabeth Goings Hicks, 85, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 13, 2015. Mrs. Hicks was the daughter of the late John A. Goings, Sr. and the late Mary Lyles Goings. She was the widow of Clarence Edward Hicks. Mrs. Hicks was a member of Bunton Institutional C.M.E. Church. Mary retired from Butte Knit. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her daughters, Marjorie (Stanley, Sr.) Jones, Carolyn Littlejohn both of Spartanburg, SC; her granddaughter reared in the home and adopted as her daughter, Tameka Hicks; her grandson, reared in the home, Thomas (“T.J.”) Hicks of Vienna, Austria; her brothers, Howard (Ruth) Goings of Hughesonville, NY, Charles (Polly) Goings and Kenneth (Julie) Goings; her sister, Barbara Talley of Charlotte, NC; her six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A Celebration of the Life of Mary Elizabeth Goings Hicks will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Bunton Institutional C.M.E. Church, 500 Wofford St., Spartanburg, SC. Reverend Clifton E. Harris, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be held in Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2310 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Marjorie Jones, 136 Druid St., Spartanburg, SC.
