Ivory McDowell, 103, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2021. She was the last surviving daughter of Frank and Mary Jane Gardener Lyles. Mrs. McDowell was the wife of the late Duffie Henry McDowell. She was a member of Holden Chapel Baptist Church for eighty-seven years. During her years at Holden Chapel, she participated in the Gospel Choir, served as a member of the Deaconess Board, and served on the kitchen staff. She was also a dedicated member to the Bee Street Sympathy Club. Always loving and exceedingly kind, Ivory McDowell will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
Left to cherish her beloved memories are: her son, Johnny (Mary) McDowell of Boiling Springs, SC; one granddaughter, Amy McDowell of Arlington, VA; two great-granddaughters, Kiara Drummond of Jacksonville, FL and Kensley (Tyrone) Aiken of Spartanburg, SC, one great-great grandson, Trace Aiken; and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Duffie McDowell; her daughter, Sallie Mae Lucas; son-in-law, Winfred Lucas; and her granddaughter, Traci Drummond. A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Ivory McDowell will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Holden Chapel Baptist Church, 2260 Old Furnace Rd., Boiling Springs, SC. Rev. Dr. Jackie O’Neal will preside and Rev. Yowe will officiate.
My condolences to the family
Mrs. McDowell was one of the Matriarchs of my neighborhood. She watched out for me, my brothers and the other kids. She was my mothers buddie!!! We love you Mrs. McDowell but God loves you most. Rest in peace.
Aunt Ivory you are truly gonna be missed as I sit here remembering our time together my favorite memory is when I come over to visit and we would sit for hours talking about everything I would get so comfortable in that chair every time I would take a nap afterwards we would laugh how that chair would rock me to sleep. I Thank God for allowing us so many years with you and i would always cherish you in my heart Johnny I'm not able to be with you guys I definitely will keep our family lifted up in prayer. Mrs. Ivory was one of the staples at HCMBC and she will be forever remembered. What a humble and sweet spirit she was. You fought a good fight, now take your rest in the arms of sweet Jesus. Praying for comfort and peace for the McDowell family.
