Obituary For Dr. Curtis Tyrone Gilmore Sr.

SPARTANBURG, SC - Curtis Tyrone Gilmore, Sr., 74, passed away on February 27, 2018. Dr. Gilmore is survived by his son, C. Tyrone (Lori) Gilmore, Jr; and his daughter, Tracy Robinson. Dr. Gilmore was retired as an educator and former Superintendent for Spartanburg School District Seven. He continued to work tirelessly for children and adults in the community until his death. Dr. Gilmore was a member of Silver Hill Memorial United Methodist Church. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will conduct the Memorial Service on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 700 S. Converse St., Spartanburg, SC. The family will receive friends at the church from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of the Life of Dr. C. Tyrone Gilmore will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 700 S. Converse St., Spartanburg, SC. The Rev. Jerry Louis Gadsden and Bishop Charles J.J. Jackson, III will officiate. Dr. Gilmore will lie in state at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Livingstone College Scholarship Fund.

I remember when Mr Gilmore was principal at Carver I never had to go to his office but he would always be friendly to students and I also remember when he became Supertindent of District 7 He will greatly be missed and I sry for your loss

I always enjoyed working with Ty. He had a great sense of humor and concern for the students.One of the members of my SS class funeral was the same day as Ty's so I didn't make it to the service. I know it was lovely. Thinking of you.

Dear Gilmore family, our deepest condolences to you. If it were not for Tyrone Gilmore our Boys & Girls Clubs may have never been the success they are today. Dr. Gilmore invited our organization to open its first clubs in District 7 schools back in 1989 and 1990. Thanks to his decision we have operated clubs in over 20 schools in the upstate over the last 30 years. Our organization became we believe The first Boys & Girls Club founded to operate solely in school settings. Today our clubs are recognized as some of the best in the country.
