Obituary For Charles Edward Clowney

Charles Edward "Tate" Clowney was born to the late Adolphus Clowney and Javana Mills Clowney. A native of Spartanburg County, Tate was the youngest of five children, Adolphus, William "Little Bill", Eugene and Elizabeth Stripling, all of whom preceded him in their homegoing.

"Tate" was a graduate of Carver High School, where he excelled academically and acquired a technical certification in Brick Masonry.

After high school, Tate was inducted in the United States Army in 1952,where he served a combat tour of duty, in Korea South East Asia. In 1954, "Tate" was Honorably Discharged from the Army, with the rank of Corporal.

After the completion of his military obligation, he returned back to Spartanburg and married Doris Atchison Clowney and built a very successful brick masonry business. Tate’s dedication to his craft earned him many accolades from his peers as one of the best brick masons, in the Upstate.

"Tate" was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend to all who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance.

Left to cherish and honor him are: children, Donna Clowney-Robinson (Bilal), Charlise Williams (Christopher), Charles Edward Clowney, Jr. (Nikki)and Nicole Browning; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four nieces; three nephews; three remaining first cousins; and a host of other family members and friends.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
