It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Benjamin Kofi Owusu Osei, who departed from us on Saturday, January 11, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on May 20, 2004, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the cherished son of Daniel Osei and Hannah Owusu-Ansah, and a beloved brother to David and Michael Osei.
Ben was a student at Lander University, pursuing a degree in Public Health, with the ambition of becoming a Dentist. An active member of the campus community, he served as President of the African Student Union and was a member of various organizations such as Minorities on the Move (MOMS), Student Support Services (TRIO), and the Pre-Dental Students. His remarkable work ethic, punctuality, flexibility, and excellent communication skills were qualities admired by all who knew him. He was expected to graduate in May 2026.
Ben attended Dorman High School, where he thrived as a disciplined and motivated student. A proud member of the ROTC program, he exemplified leadership, teamwork, and integrity. Graduating from Dorman High School in 2022, he carried these values into all facets of his life.
Deeply anchored in his faith, Ben attended the Church of Pentecost, where he played the keyboard with passion and regularly volunteered his time to serve others. His dedication to helping those in need was also evident in his support for Ball4Good, a local youth-led Spartanburg Nonprofit.
During his high school days, Ben showcased his ability to adapt and excel by working throughout the school year. From February 2019 to January 2020, Ben worked at Zaxby’s in various roles, and from March 2021 to November 2022, he contributed to Walmart Supercenter, showcasing his adaptability, teamwork, and multitasking skills in both positions.
Ben’s sense of community extended beyond his professional and educational pursuits. He was a dedicated volunteer who contributed to the betterment of others in countless ways. He volunteered at a local library, organizing reading programs, leading fun activities for children, and ensuring a welcoming environment for all. Furthermore, he gave his time at the Soup Kitchen in Uptown Greenwood, setting up tables, distributing food, and offering human connection to those in need.
Ben’s life was a testament to kindness, hard work, and unwavering faith. His legacy is one of service, love, and community. Though his time on earth was short, his impact will be felt forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
A funeral service to honor Ben’s extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Spartanburg. Following the service, his burial will take place at Heritage Memorial Gardens in Roebuck, South Carolina. The attire for the service is white.
Additionally, a Memorial Service to celebrate Ben’s memory will be held at the Church of Pentecost in Charlotte, North Carolina, later in the day. The family will also participate in a Thanksgiving service at the same church on Sunday, February 16th.
Please join us as we come together to remember and celebrate the life of an exceptional young man.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Benjamin's passing. I had the privilege of meeting him during our worship night at Lander, and it was clear how talented and kind he was. His polite and gentle nature left a lasting impression on me, and I am grateful to have had the chance to witness his gifts in such a meaningful setting.
Please know that I am keeping you and your family in my prayers during this difficult time. May God's comfort and peace surround you, and may His strength carry you through the days ahead.
May the good Lord be with your young soul Rest Peacefully
May you rest peace
I am very sorry for your precious loss...Benjamin was a student in my Public Speaking course. I remember how well poised he was when he spoke. He was very proud of his heritage and spoke about the style of clothing in his culture. If memory serves me correctly, Benjamin also gave a speech on how to do maintenance on a car which I believe he credited his father for teaching him. He was an introspective, polite young man, that spoke well about topics he was passionate about. The World will be a darker place without his light. May the Lord embrace Benjamin in His arms and bring comfort and peace to his family and friends.
Benjamin was the most generous person I knew. He had a heart for the people, and he always wanted to give and support the community to the best of his ability. He always had this joyful sprit it was almost contagious. He'd ask me how my day was or how classes were going and he always checked up on me when he could. We went to high school together and we went to Lander together. I first met him in medical terminology class in high school and he was so kind and respectful. He never changed the way he was, and he had a bright soul. Ben will be missed dearly, and I will keep the Osei family in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Benajamin.
Ben and I didn't know each other as we only ever passed each other but he was always smiling. He was an amazing student and always dressed immaculately. I wish I was able to get to know him better. Ben will always be in my thoughts.
I enjoyed teaching Benjamin here at Lander. He was a wonderful student and a kind person! Prayers for his family and friends!
Benjamin was a really sweet guy. He was one of those students I would see about everyday on my walk to class. I've only had a view conversations with him but he was always super welcoming and kind. My prayers go out to friends and family
Ben was a talented artist. I enjoyed the impressive doodles he would leave on his school papers. His family is in the thoughts and prayers of many Lander students and faculty.
Ben would always be so kind with the biggest smile on his face anytime I would see him around school at Dawkins, Dorman, or at Lander. He was a great person with a huge heart. I will miss seeing his bright personality around campus. Your family is in my prayers.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
