It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Atty Leon Campbell, a beloved member of our community, who transitioned to glory on Friday, July 5th, 2024.
Leon Campbell was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, one of 17 siblings to Deacon Fred and Mother Nina Campbell. He was the cherished brother of Ralph Campbell, Christopher Campbell, Leroy Campbell, Donald Campbell, Veola Carter, Mildred Smith, Francis Dyer, Nina Harper, Brenda Booker, Freddie Bryant, Ernest Campbell, Calvin Campbell, Charles Campbell, Fred Campbell, Jr, Elease Lewis, Johnnie Mae Hill and Dwayne Campbell. As a child, Leon was a dedicated member of the Apostolic Faith Church of Jesus.
Leon graduated from Dillard High School in 1970 and pursued higher education at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, a Master's Degree in Public Administration, and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence Degree. Following his academic achievements, he moved to Sarasota to join the Westcoast Center for Human Development ministry and established a distinguished career practicing law in the State of Florida. His areas of expertise included trial litigation, criminal law, family law, probate, contract, and civil litigation.
Deeply committed to his community, Leon served as a mentor to youthful offenders at the Bradenton Treatment Center, was a member of the City of Sarasota's Board of Adjustment, and was a Board Member of the City of Sarasota Housing Authority. He was the founder of the "Talk Up Club," promoting community unity with the principle of "saying something nice or nothing at all." Leon was also a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and served on the board of the Precious Jewels Academy Learning Center, Inc. Additionally, he was a dedicated member of the Board of Directors of the Henry L. Porter Evangelistic Association, Inc., and a choir member and guitarist with the Westcoast Gospel Chorus of Florida.
Leon was a devoted husband to Reverend, Dr. Mrs. Celestine Campbell and a loving father to five children: Leon Campbell II, Apphia Campbell Baga, Tahlah Campbell Joseph, Jardina Campbell, and Santoy Campbell and a Grandfather to Julian Baga, Greyson Joseph, and Preston Joseph. He also had nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of family and friends. His legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
Atty Leon Campbell's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his commitment to justice, and his dedication to serving others. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Westcoast Center for Human Development. Services will be held 10:00am on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Westcoast Center for Human Development, at 403 N Washington Blvd, Sarasota, Fl 34234. Funeral Arrangement will be completed by Jones Funeral Home.
Prayers to the family of Atty. Campbell. He was a good man. May God continue to hold you up during your time of bereavement. He has certainly earned his wings.
Leon was my friend. He was a good man who cared for his fellow men and women. He inspired confidence in others and always had a kind word. the world is a little less without him, and I will miss him greatly.
