Reflections of Life

Mr. J.D. Brooks Jr. was born on March 1, 1951, in Leesburg, Lee County, Georgia to the late Mr. J.D. Brooks Sr. and Mrs. Birder Mae Brooks. J.D. entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

At an early age, he joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Leesburg, GA and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended Lee County Training School, and later graduated from a school in Washington State after completing the Culinary Arts Program. After graduation, J.D. moved to Atlanta, GA where he began a successful career in Logistics and Commercial Vehicle Operations. He had a true affinity for commercial trucking which led him to investing in his own business as an Owner Operator for over 30 years. In his pastime, J.D. loved talking to people whenever and however he could. Early on in his trucking career, he became fond of talking to people on his CB Radio. It became such an exciting hobby for him, he purchased a CB Radio for his home and pick-up truck. He had a love for traveling, loud music, and dancing. Furthermore, he was widely known to spend time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Brooks Sr; mother (Birder Mae); brother, Samuel Brooks; three sisters, Pearlie Mae Blackshear, Eva Mae Wilson, Barbara Jean Brooks; two in-laws, Samuel and Bertha Goodwin; brother in-law, Leon “David” Bradley; granddaughter, Amanda Kelley.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Louise Goodwin Brooks of 20 years; six daughters, Melissa Kelley-Drayton (Sammy), Gwendolyn Yarn, Jadeshala Brooks, LaKeisha Brooks, Myesha Ward, Denetra Goodwin; one son, Bryan Goodwin; one goddaughter, Shawnta Malone; thirteen grandchildren, Brashard Yarn, Montrez Yarn, Alicia McGowan, Terrell McGowan, Abriana Brooks, Quantavious Brooks, Quantavious Kelley, Brianna Covin, Tyreek Collier, RodariDaniels Jr, Taylor Ward, Shalyn Goodwin, Nathan Abega; and fourteen great grandchildren.

He also leaves four siblings and their spouses Daniel Brooks (Louise), Stella Bradley, Shirley Bias (John), Janice Brooks Norris (Terry); four sisters-in-law, Shirley Goodwin, Ernestine Goodwin, Hattie Maxey (William), Helen Goodwin; nine brothers-in-law, Ben Wilson, Henry Blackshear, Samuel Goodwin, Willie Goodwin, James Goodwin, Howard Goodwin,Thomas Goodwin, Steven Goodwin, Eureka Goodwin (Mary); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and sorrowing friends.
