TYLER---Funeral services for Mr. J.W. Johnson, 77, is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Rufus Pollard, eulogist. Burial will be in High Cemetery in Winona under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Company.
Mr. Johnson was born on March 17, 1946 in Overton, Texas to the late Woodrow and Evia Ates Johnson and he transitioned on February 17, 2024 at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital.
Hes was a graduate of Emmett J. Scott High School and recieved his H-VAC certificate from Tyler Junior College. Mr. Johnson was a maintenance technician and member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Usher and member of the Finance Committee.
Preceding him in death were three sons: Antonio Black, Ricky Black and Pastor Ronnie Black; two sisters: Belinda J Rogers and Bobbie J Key; two brothers: A.W. Johnson and Michael C. Johnson
Mr. Johnson leaves cherished memories to his spouse: Glory C Black of Tyler, three daughters: Stephanie Black, Helen Blake (Marcus) both of Tyler and Cynthia Parker (Darrell) of Dallas; two sisters: Ruth Wade of Tyler and Lasandra Williams of Duncanville; four grandchildren: Tamarick Blake, Devonte Black, Treasure Blake and Trejon Blake and one great-grandchild: Kaisley Black.
Public viewing will be Friday 2 pm to 8 pm at the funeral home.
