In the tender embrace of memory, we celebrate the life of Robert Allen Shelton, a man of many talents and boundless positivity, whose light dimmed on July 11, 2024, at the Youngstown campus of Mercy Health Care. Born on November 7, 1961, in Youngtown, to the union of Lucy Bryant Shelton and Louis Shelton, his life reflected creativity, joy, and unwavering faith.
Robert was a true maestro of the arts and his talents spanned far and wide, from the intricate realms of interior and exterior design to the gentle touch of landscaping and drapery-making finesse. A true artisan in every sense, he breathed life into spaces with his carpentry skills, leaving behind a legacy that whispers of beauty and craft.
A proud graduate of North High School, Robert was employed at Cantar Polyair until his retirement. He embraced the thrill of shopping, having an appreciation for value, elegance and panache.
As a consummate host, his hospitality was unmatched in warmth, bringing light and laughter to every gathering. He loved the opportunity to host events and entertain. Family gatherings were sacred, a space where love and unity reigned supreme.
In prayer and faith, Robert found strength and solace, a man who walked with grace and reverence in the presence of the divine. A good soul, a kind spirit, a beacon of light in a world often shrouded in darkness.
In his free time, he sought solace maintaining his aquariums and was a lover of his feline friends as well. Robert’s affinity for his aquatic and feline companions, along with his penchant for talkative conversations were an integral part of his essence.
Robert’s honesty cut through the noise of the world, a beacon of truth in a sea of falsehoods. Affable and ever-engaging, quick witted, never at a loss for words, always ready to lend a helping hand. The essence of his nature was a symphony of chatter, a melody that filled every corner it touched.
An aficionado of jazz, R&B, and eclectic music, Robert found solace in melodies that resonated with his vibrant spirit. Robert’s soul danced to the rhythm of the beat, finding solace in electrifying melodies that touched the very essence of their being. He amassed a vast collection of movies housed within his inner sanctuary, a place where tales unfolded, and emotions ran freely.
His memory will be cherished by Todd Prisby, his life partner of 30 years, and siblings Frederick (Barbara) Shelton, Norma Jean Shelton and Ethel Mahone. He will also be missed by his closest friends which includes Denise Pennington, Robert Marilla, Melvin Dixon, and Mattie Mitchell, along with a cadre of family and friends who loved him dearly.
As Robert crossed into eternity, he was greeted by a host of great witnesses which included his parents and brothers Joseph Adams, William Shelton who preceded him.
Let us remember Robert not with sadness, but with joy, for he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many that time can never erase. As we gather to say our goodbyes, let us not mourn his departure, but rather celebrate the joy he brought into our lives. Robert's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
