Darren “Tilt” Lamont Blackwell of Farrell, PA transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, March 14, 2024, while in hospice care at Saint John XXXIII Home of Hermitage, PA at the age of 61. He was born May 9, 1962, in Sharon, PA to the union of Harrison Gene and Dorethea (Huntley) Blackwell.
Darren was a 1980 graduate of Farrell High where he was an athletic standout in football, track & field, volleyball, a homeroom representative, and a member of student council.
He was a former member of Greater Mt. Zion COGIC under the leadership of Superintendent Wilbert G, Hadden. He was a faithful usher, involved in ministry of helps and was excited to serve God’s people in any needed capacity. He upheld the legacy of his beloved grandmother Mother Louise Blackwell who demonstratively taught him how to be a servant of God.
Darren was a provider for his family and was formerly employed by Sharon Steel Corporation. He served with valor as a correctional officer for the Ohio State Penitentiary for twenty years, before having to relinquish his position due to illness.
Darren adored his wife, the former Teresa Page, of thirty-one years, whom he was united in holy matrimony on September 25, 1993. With this union they created a home filled with love and respect. He was blessed to witness and nurture the maturity of their sons, Derrick and Durell, which were his pride and joy. He was a very kind man and a gentle spirit, who loved laughter and making others laugh.
The fondest memories of Darren will be cherished by his wife Teresa; sons, Derrick and Durell, Farrell, PA; brothers, Harrison (Eleaine) Blackwell of Arizona, Robert (Stephanie) Blackwell of Indianapolis, IN and sister, Carmella (Candy) Blackwell, Hermitage, PA.
His legacy is emboldened by the special relationships shared by his cousin/sister Mrs. Verna Huntley Smith; aunt Rev. Betty Lee; nephews Dominic (Terica Cromartie) Blackwell, Brandon Blackwell, both of Arizonia and Robert Huntley Blackwell, Indianapolis, IN; niece De-ja Blackwell, Atlanta, GA; cousins, Katrina Huntley, Newport News, VA, Key-Airia Madison and Key-Asia Oatis, both of Farrell and James “JJ” Huntley, Youngstown, OH.
His loving impact will be sustained by his godchildren Key-mone, Kesjon and Matthew, as well as his closest friends Rev, Michael Harris, Charles McSwain, William Harris and Curtis Woods. He also leaves behind a score of additional relatives and friends whom were all very dear to him.
He now takes his seat among the ancestors. Welcoming him at Heaven’s gates upon his arrival were by his parents, paternal grandmother Louise Blackwell, maternal grandparents Sallie & James Huntley, aunts Eva L. & Anna Mae Huntley, and special cousins Vincent L. Huntley and Victor Huntley who all preceded in him death.
A man of dignity and compassion, Darren will be dearly missed all who were blessed to know him. May his soul find eternal peace in the arms of the Divine and his memory continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
